Today, I was by myself. And so I decided to walk up to a favorite haunt of mine and get some tamales. There's a Latino grocery store that has a deli in the back of the store with the best tamales you've ever eaten. They make two kinds: spicy and regular. I can't tolerate the spicy ones so it was the regular ones that I was wanting. I left home to face this traffic. By the way, see that bus? It comes right out in front of my home and will take me all over Gwinnett County, including the closest Marta station (our equivalent of the subway). Anyway, I headed on up the road . . .
And finally after much waddling, I made it. I headed on back to the deli . . .
Only to find out that they didn't have these regular ones (rojo). This picture was from a past visit. They only had the spicy HOT ones. I decided that I didn't want to eat them. So after all that walking, I left and went to Chipotle's which was across the street. I got there only to see that there was no where to sit. There were too many people. So, I left there and decided to go to one of my very favorite places: a Latino seafood restaurant called Las Costas Nayaritas.
Instead of chips, they bring this as their appetizer. And it's delicious. But see that sauce on the side? I didn't realize EXACTLY what it was and I poured it on the appetizer. S.P.I.C.Y!! So, as it turned out, I might as well have eaten the spicy tamales. But I ate this since I had already ordered it.
And I ordered Salmon with a cream sauce and mushrooms (which I pushed off because I like the sauce but not the mushrooms). The rice that you see to the side was SO soft and tasty. I get this every time I go to this restaurant. I made the mistake of telling David I was here (he was doing a party). He texted me back telling me to order him fajitas and he would eat them when he got home. So I did.
The waiter, Manuel, was SO VERY good and attentive and he humored me by speaking to me in Spanish and allowing me to practice my Spanish.
This restaurant is at between Sweetwater Road and Club Drive, just off of Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth. It sits right next to the QT gas station. If you are ever in the area, you should visit them. Be sure to ask for Manuel.
After my lunch, with David's in hand, I went to Publix for a thing or two and then headed on back. Happy met me at the door, thoroughly ready to go out and sniff around for a while. Being her slave and although I was tired by then, I took her out for an enjoyable (to her) walk. When we go back I relaxed. I don't know if it was all the walking or what, but I took my blood pressure and it was 123 over 83. So I was pleased with that.
As I mentioned in my last post, you can earn THOUSANDS of miles to fly with for FREE!! American Express has a promotion in conjunction with Delta Airlines right now (this link won't work later -it's time sensitive) where you can earn 50,000 FREE miles to fly with when you apply for, receive the American Express card and spend at least 2,000 dollars in your first six months of card ownership. It's EASY. What I did with my own card, was simply to pay my bills that I was going to pay anyway, with my American Express card. I qualified the first month. And off to Los Angeles I flew - FOR FREE!! Check them out,, here. If the link no longer works, email me and I'll get you the latest link.
And having nothing to do with Atlanta or food, here my song for the day. The late Jessye Norman singing "All the things you are". She was such a classy person as well as a wonderful and beloved singer.
